Review of Street Fighter 6 (PS5): Revamped and Reimagined

It seems like Capcom is now getting its comeuppance with Street Fighter 6, especially after the underwhelming success of its predecessor. Think of it as a 2D fighting game that has been updated with some open-world features. Since its June 2, 2023 release, I have been playing it, and I still have a lot to learn. This game has surpassed our expectations in every way, from the World Tour, Battle Hub, and Fighting Grounds to the Classic & Modern Controls. After over a week of gameplay, here is our Street Fighter 6 Review, which should help you decide whether or not to buy the game.

Review: Street Fighter 6

To be quite honest, Capcom did a fantastic job in incorporating the new Battle Hub & World Tour features in Street Fighter 6. As a player, I won't shell out sixty bucks for a game unless I am an ardent follower of the series. However, the developers had different ideas for each of us. It's not necessary to play every game in the series to understand this one. Street Fighter 6 is entertaining even for someone who has never heard of the game before.

The World Tour mode is best suited for those who like role-playing games. Street Fighter 6 also provides Battle Hub and Fighting Grounds, which we shall discuss later, for those who want pure action. The icing on the cake is an amazing cast of eighteen returning and new characters.

In a Street Fighter video game, fighting is the love language. Capcom has designed three of the most captivating game modes ever with that in mind. It's time to expose these revolutionary ideas to you.

Global Tour Mode: Revolutionizing the Fighting Genre

In contrast to previous games in the series, Street Fighter 6 offers an abundance of new content. You may now build your Avatar in detail before delving further into the tale thanks to the World Tour mode. Through discussion and cutscenes, you will learn more about the SF characters as you go in this mode. You may also converse with NPCs and engage in combat with them to get prizes.

In addition, Street Fighter 6 has a brand-new battle feature called the Drive Gauge. Thus, each player begins with a Drive Gauge, which is located just under the health bar and has six bars on it. Upon filling the Drive Gauge, you may perform Special Moves such as .Drive Impacts, Overdrives, Drive Rushes, Drive Reversals, and Drive Parries. Right now, let me provide you some guidance: Avoid blindly repeating Drive Moves. Unfortunately, I lost a significant Fighting Grounds match as a result of this error. You will go into a Burnout condition where your character will receive greater damage each time your Drive Gauge is depleted. However, by striking or deflecting oncoming attacks, you may replenish the Drive Gauge once again.

The Greatest Matchmaking Lobby Ever: Battle Hub Mode

Players from all around the world come to Battle Hub, a lobby-style environment, to locate a good opponent. There are several arcade games in this section that you may use to test your skills against others. If you're bored in the meantime, you may go upstairs and compose some pop music. By utilizing the DJ mixer, you can turn yourself into a DJ and get others to groove to your tunes.

Street Fighter 6 Review
Traditional vs. Contemporary Control
To accommodate both experienced gamers and novices, the creators put forth a great deal of effort. Both Traditional and Modern Controls are two of the most discussed features of Street Fighter 6's gameplay elements. The latter has a typical 6-button control system, whereas Modern Control lets you play the game with only 4 buttons. Because the Modern Control requires fewer control combinations to learn, I personally utilized it.The ability to play Street Fighter 6 with a Arcade Stick is among its most exciting features. It would be a fantastic chance for a competitive player to have the upper hand with this specially designed combat controller.

Last Words

The plot became too cliched after a whole day on World Tour. I took regular pauses and played Versus or Extreme Battles for a while as boredom set in, which was a lot of fun. I often spent some time to go about the map's secret areas, where I fortunately came across individuals like Watcher. (Action figure). Not to brag, but on my first try, I beat him. Experimenting with the character move sets in Battle Hub was very enjoyable. The crucial time has arrived - Is Street Fighter 6 a worthwhile purchase?Even for a beginner, I think the game is worth a try.
